JOIN US IN STOPPING PRETRIAL RACISM

JOIN ESSIE JUSTICE GROUP, SILICON VALLEY DEBUG, DIGNITY AND POWER NOW, JUSTICELA, HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH, THE BAIL PROJECT, REFORM LA JAILS, COLOR OF CHANGE, LACAN, AND MANY OTHERS IN SAYING NO ON CALIFORNIA’S PROPOSITION 25 ON NOVEMBER 3RD.

Prop 25 is a ballot measure that would uphold SB10 –

a backroom deal among politicians, judges, and probation departments. It replaces California’s bail system with an even worse system of MASS INCARCERATION and PRETRIAL RACISM.

HERE ARE THE FACTS.

PROP 25:

Automates Racial Profiling

Prop 25 would make pretrial risk assessments the  foundation of our criminal justice system. These tools are automated racial profiling. They are corrupted by racial bias and hardwired to paint Black, brown, and low income people  awaiting trial as dangerous criminals. They perpetuate and increase current racial inequities in the system.

Gives unchecked power for judges

Prop 25 gives judges all the power and requires no accountability. Judges are free to ignore and override a risk assessment that recommends release and jail a person at their discretion and without explanation. It allows judges to trap legally innocent people in jail with no way out.

Increases funding for corrupt probation departments

Prop 25 guarantees massive funding increases for probation departments in every country. This gives corrupt law enforcement more power to harass Black, brown, and low income people.

THE OUTCOME

MORE BLACK, BROWN, AND LOW INCOME PEOPLE IN JAIL.

IT’S CLEAR,

PROP 25 MEANS MASS INCARCERATION AND PRETRIAL RACISM. IT WILL INCREASE RACISM IN OUR CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.

IT WOULD LOCK UP MORE BLACK, BROWN, AND LOW INCOME PEOPLE. WE NEED REAL REFORM, NOT ANOTHER BACKROOM DEAL THAT GIVES MORE MONEY AND POWER TO JUDGES AND LAW ENFORCEMENT.
